The Challenger M-105 EX V.4 model of Dynavoice audio speakers is already in its fourth version, and all their "incarnations" are characterized by one feature: these speakers are XXL in size and are clearly intended for fans of "powerful" sound. The large-volume cases are made of 18 mm MDF material and reinforced with many fasteners. Swedish audio engineers have "decorated" the speakers with two 254mm Kevlar woofers, a pair of carbon 133mm "caliber" mid-range speakers and one 25mm Super Audio tweeter, which is highly resistant to sound overload.
In the part of the low-frequency section, sufficiently large phase inverters are made, for the "adjustment" of which, the kit includes a pair of foam blinds.
The frequency range (from 4 to 20kHz) is regulated with the help of a switchable X-Change filter (with fixed levels -2/0/+2/+4 dB). The filter switcher itself is quite original: three connectors (sockets) arranged in the shape of an equilateral triangle switch in three positions thanks to a jumper, and after removing the jumper, it leaves room for setting the fourth position.
In this way, by manipulating the jumper and the blinds of the phase inverters, it is possible to significantly change the sound character of the speakers, adapting to the volume and acoustic properties of the room.
In a word, Dynavoice Challenger M-105 EX v.4 looks "angry" and powerful only covered with black lacquer. The white lacquer makes the construction more elegant, and the wood-colored body gives solidity and coziness to the appearance of the speakers.
We can say that in a home cinema system, these powerhouses can do without the help of a low-frequency speaker (subwoofer). We haven't heard any reason to add to the low frequency range of these speakers.
In general, the sound manner turned out to be very interesting. Mid and high frequencies are reproduced very flat, almost like Studio Monitor type speakers. Low frequencies and counter bass are somewhat "forced", which is quite perceptible. The rather powerful sound could hardly "fit" in the chamber environment of the salon, it seemed that this acoustic system required a stadium or a large concert arena. Electronic music is the first thing you want to hear through these speakers. Yes, the result did not disappoint us. The feel of the dance floor was physical. Lighter pop music sounded good too. Vocals are rendered quite naturally, and the compression of modern sound directors is so popular, it did not cut the ears.
However, we preferred how the speakers played electro blues and rock music. Especially modern, with heavy and "stiff" guitar sound. Good midrange resolution, excellent dynamics and a powerful bass base perfectly conveyed the emotional charge of these genres.
It was especially interesting to listen to classical music. Although, well-known works were presented somewhat unexpectedly. Beethoven, due to the weighty low-frequency components, clearly won, while Mozart sounded difficult. The least likely was that the speakers would "cope" with jazz, especially with its complex rhythmic structure. However, it was the rhythmicity and detail, especially in the low range, that surprised us.
That's it in a nutshell. We recommend placing these speakers in a larger room. And the musical line will definitely not disappoint the listeners of various music styles.
