The Dynavoice Challenger M-105 EX V.4 speaker model is now in its fourth version, and all its “incarnations” are characterized by one feature: these speakers are XXL in size and are clearly intended for fans of “powerful” sound. The large-volume enclosures are made of 18 mm MDF material and are reinforced with numerous fasteners. Swedish sound engineers “decorated” the speakers with two 254mm Kevlar woofers, a pair of 133mm carbon “caliber” midrange speakers and one 25mm Super Audio tweeter, which is characterized by high resistance to sound overloads.
The low-frequency section has fairly large phase inverters, and for their "adjustment", the kit includes a pair of foam blanks.
Frequency range (from 4 to 20kHz) adjustable by switchable X-Change (with fixed levels -2/0/+2/+4 dB) with the help of a filter. The filter switch itself is quite original: three connectors (sockets) arranged in the shape of an equilateral triangle are switched in three positions by means of a jumper, and when the jumper is removed - leaves room for setting a fourth position.
In this way, by manipulating the jumper and phase inverter blinds, it is possible to significantly change the sound character of the speakers, adapting to the volume and acoustic properties of the room.
In short, the Dynavoice Challenger M-105 EX v.4 looks "angry" and powerful only when covered in black lacquer. The white lacquer makes the structure more ornate, and the wood-colored body gives the speakers a solid and cozy appearance.
We can say that in a home theater system, these powerhouses can do without the help of a subwoofer. We have not heard any complaints about the low-frequency range of these speakers.
Overall, the sound style turned out to be very interesting. Mid and high frequencies are reproduced quite evenly, almost like in Studio Monitor type speakers. Low frequencies and pre-bass are somewhat "forced", which is quite noticeable. In the chamber environment of the salon, a fairly powerful sound could hardly "fit", it seemed that this acoustic system required a stadium or a large concert arena. Electronic music is the first thing we wanted to hear through these speakers. Yes, the result did not disappoint us. The feeling of a dance floor was physically felt. Lighter pop music also sounded good. Vocals are conveyed quite naturally, and the compression so popular with modern sound directors did not cut into the hearing.
However, we liked the way the speakers reproduced electro blues and rock music more. Especially modern, with a heavy and "stiff" guitar sound. Good midrange resolution, excellent dynamics and a powerful bass foundation perfectly conveyed the emotional charge of these genres.
It was especially interesting to listen to classical music. Although, well-known works were presented somewhat unexpectedly. Beethoven, due to its significant low-frequency components, clearly won, but Mozart sounded heavy. The least likely thing was that the speakers would "cope" with jazz, which is especially characterized by a complex rhythmic structure. However, it was the rhythm and detail, especially in the low range, that surprised us.
In short, we recommend placing these speakers in a larger room. And the musical performance will definitely not disappoint listeners of various music styles.
