Yamaha is one of the first manufacturers to provide an HDMI 2.1 interface in its AV receivers in 2020. So the new models RX-A8, RX-A6, RX-A4 and RX-A2 support 8K/60p video signals, ALLM, QMS and VRR.

TV manufacturers are slowly starting to integrate HDMI 2.1 into their 4K and 8K TVs, and with the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X, the first HDMI 2.1 players are also on the horizon. In fact, it's a great time to launch an AV receiver with HDMI 2.1. AV manufacturers are a bit hesitant about this, except for Yamaha. This year's range of AV receivers has already been presented behind closed doors at CES 2020. The RX-A8, RX-A6, RX-A4 and RX-A2 Aventage models are said to be among the first devices to receive the new interface.

Yamaha hasn't officially announced any new models, but leaked images, mostly from Canadian electronics retailer Maison Adam's YouTube video, do the talking. The video has been removed, possibly due to an NDA.

HDMI 2.1 with VRR, ALLM, QMT and QMS

Among other things, Yamahas presentation slides have been released. It not only reveals the new design of Yamaha AV receivers, but also gives an overview of the most important features of the HDMI 2.1 interface. With Automatic Low Latency Mode (ALLM), Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Quick Frame Transfer (QFT) and Quick Media Switching (QMS), AV centers are perfectly prepared for next-generation consoles. QFT is designed to reduce input lag for games and VR applications, while QMS ensures that video sources, resolutions, frame rates and HDR formats change seamlessly (black screen).
