Cascoded Feedback Stage
In place of classical differential input stage, P5 amplifiers benefit from proprietary input topology. Eight low-noise bipolar input devices, hand-matched for maximum balance, are set in a complementary active-load cascoded feedback configuration. Heat shrink tubing around each critical input pair allows top thermal tracking. Designed for lowest distortion, this grants exceptionally linear response and superior bandwidth and amplifier reliability.
Independent Power Supplies
P5 is among the cleanest, quietest amplifiers in the industry. Each channel incorporates two separate and autonomous power supplies fed from isolated transformer windings. The amplifiers provide stable, continuous power at maximum output regardless of the amount of channels being driven. Some amps tend to oscillate for lower impedance loads, P5 on the other hand remains perfectly stable. If pushed into clipping, the panti-saturation tracking power supply circuit enables a seamless recovery. Since the regulated power supply in the driver stage eliminates noise emitted by the bridge rectifier, the P5 reaches an ultra silent noise floor.
Massive Toroidal Transformers
Moderately rated, in a low-profile design, these low-impedance toroidal power supplies are unwavering when delivering a continuous supply of pure, clean low noise power. They are built to reduce hum while a sequence-controlled turn on drastically lowers power line transients and current during start up to avoid accidental tripping of the circuit breakers.
Fourteen Bipolar Output Devices
An amplifier's performance correlates to the amount of premium high-current mechanisms used in the output stage. The more employed per channel, the greater the power to deliver crescendos and explosions and amount of current held in reserve. Anthem designers incorporated fourteen bipolar output devices per channel for tremendous current held in reserve.
Hand-Designed Circuit Boards
Two-layer military-spec (FR-4-rated) glass-epoxy circuit boards feature plated through-holes and 2-ounce copper traces facilitating excellent conductivity. Extensive power usage and ground planes mean ultra low noise and better shielding from stray internal or external electromagnetic energy from other devices.
"No Fuse" Design
P5 is Direct-Connected to the power supply capacitor bank retaining ultra-low impedance while producing more power available to the amplifier. The result is audibly superior performance. Only the AC line breaker will trip If an output short circuits meaning no fuses to replace. The standby low-power supply is shielded by self-resetting PTCs.
Binding Posts and True-Balanced Inputs
Custom-designed Oversize Gold-Plated binding posts are effortless, ensure full power delivery at all times and accommodate large speaker cable connectors. A triple-way switch on the back provides an RCA input, pro-grade XLR balanced input and an attenuated XLR balanced connection. Gold-plated female RCA jacks and XLR balanced connections grant top quality inputs.
Oversize Aluminum Headsinks
With over 1125 square inches of computer modeled heatsink per channel, P5 is remarkably well equipped to disperse the heat generated by high power levels. This removes the need for noise-generating cooling fans. A thermal sensor on each heatsink regularly monitors safe operating temperature.
Sleek Design
Made in North America, P5 employs a fine-grain brushed aluminum cover and extruded aluminum handles. Heavy-gauge, low-resonance 12-awg steel chassis and large aluminum heatsinks produce mighty mass and authority. P5 is supplied with IEC AC female sockets and removable high-power and high-quality 14-awg AC power cords.
