Marantz Special Edition
The rich and careful tuning of the sound masters is what gives the great sonic signature of all Marantz products. No component leaves the hands of the Marantz Sound Masters until it has passed rigorous testing. Only the best products, carefully checked, will be in your home.
Marantz Special Editions are Marantz's way of celebrating the love of music that runs deep in the veins of Marantz's sound masters and engineers, exhibited in the craftsmanship and craftsmanship of those special components. Audiophiles will occasionally recognize a product with greater potential than expected and master it with extra and reckless attention to detail, component selection, and listening sessions. The original PM-12 was developed only for the Japanese market and soon appeared in the European market as well. The audio engineers combined this with the achievements of the famous PM-KI Ruby, and the special edition PM-12 was born.

Extensive sound tuning

Ample and careful tuning has long been the secret behind great Marantz amplifiers. When it comes to the PM-12SE, the Marantz engineering team put all of their experience and knowledge to use, both in designing the amplifier and in the long listening sessions involved in finishing the sound. The Sound Masters team, located in Japan and Europe, did not stop intensive work until they were absolutely sure that they had achieved the quality worthy of the Marantz name.

Marantz HDAM Technology

Marantz developed its own discrete circuits, called hyperdynamic amplifier modules, or HDAMs, to replace the chip-based amplifiers used elsewhere. Using separate surface mount components with short mirror image left and right signal paths, HDAM significantly outperforms conventional integrated optical amplifiers in terms of slew rate and noise level. The result is much more dynamic, accurate and detailed. Over the years, Marantz has developed different HDAMs to meet the specific requirements of players and amplifiers. The PM-12SE uses the latest high-quality version of SA3. Combined with an optimized circuit design layout and carefully selected components, the PM-12SE delivers exceptional sound quality and performance.

Marantz Musical Premium Phono EQ

Marantz has taken its ongoing commitment to vinyl to new heights by introducing the Marantz Musical Premium Phono EQ to the stage. Designed to ensure optimum sound quality by simplifying the signal path - extremely important given the delicate nature of background signals - the Phono EQ stage in the PM-12SE amplifier can be used with both moving magnet and low-power moving coil cartridges, thanks to the built-in -in MC Head Amplifier. The phonon stage uses two-stage amplification by combining a Marantz HDAM with a JFET (with field-effect transistors) in the input stage, providing a high input impedance. This makes it possible to further simplify the negative influence of feedback and eliminate coupling capacitors, again reducing distortion and improving signal purity.

High Quality Volume Control

The newly designed electric volume control uses the latest volume control IC to provide better channel separation, dynamic range and distortion reduction while maintaining the functionality of an analog volume control. The amplifier uses a new electric volume control developed by Marantz, which ensures high linearity and best quality channel separation.

Feedback in the amplifier

The current feedback design is a well-known, original Marantz circuit technology, thoughtfully designed to meet the requirements of Super Audio high-resolution music for wide bandwidth and fast reproduction. The impedance at the current feedback point is limited, creating a very small phase shift. Marantz Current Feedback amplifiers reduce the need for phase compensation by reducing negative feedback (NFB). This simplifies the signal path and provides high bandwidth, excellent transient response and excellent audio transparency throughout the bandwidth. Unlike conventional voltage feedback topology, current feedback also makes the power amplifier insensitive to heavy speaker loads.

Amplifier power

Building on the design elements of the PM-10, the PM-12SE is designed to deliver refinements, maintain the purest possible sound and maintain the power needed to drive the most demanding loudspeakers. The output stage of the PM-12SE amplifier allows for high power output, delivering 2x100W into an 8ohm load and easily copes with high-impedance speakers as the 2x200W power output into 4ohms. The amplifier module connects directly to the PM-12SE rear panel to maintain signal purity and sound stability.

Fully analog construction

The PM-12SE's all-analog design contributes to its noise-reduction structure and clean construction: many competitor designs today include digital-to-analog conversion or digital gain and volume controls, but Marantz keeps things so clean and simple. made possible by its recognized analog design. It may look like an amp has a DAC, but digital circuitry is inherently noisy (in the electrical sense) and can interfere with the subtle analog signals passing through the amp. That's why Marantz chose to model its Premium series without any digital-to-analog conversion, keeping its amplifiers as powerful as possible.
There's also a Power Amp input that routes the signal directly from the input section to the power stage, so the unit can function as a pure power amplifier.

Carefully selected components

Marantz has a solid reputation for selecting the best possible components for its Premium Series products. Marantz's alternative to amplifier-on-a-chip IC components, the HDAM, is a miniature amplifier module made entirely of discrete components. HDAM was selected and optimized by Marantz engineers by listening to dedicated Marantz equipment in Europe and Japan. Ample and careful tuning has long been the secret behind Marantz amplifiers' exceptional sound. During the development phase, every detail has been carefully selected, tested and approved by Marantz audio engineers to ensure sound perfection every time you listen.

Analog inputs and outputs

In addition to phono and CD analog inputs, the PM-12SE features two line-level inputs and two pairs of recorder I/O jacks for connecting multiple sources and recorders. Use the PM-12SE as a stand-alone stereo power amplifier or as a power amplifier via the direct power amplifier input. For example, use the front of your AV settings and run them through the PM-12SE power amplifiers.

Headphone output

Using Marantz's proprietary HDAM discrete modules, the headphone circuit provides excellent audio fidelity with a wide range of headphone types and impedances, including low-impedance headphones.

System remote control

Use the elegant remote control to control the PM-12SE as well as the optional SA-12SE Super Audio CD player. The PM-12SE has remote control input and output jacks for additional remote control configuration.

Designed to be used

Like the SA-12SE Super Audio add-on CD player, the PM-12SE integrated amplifier is built to the highest standards with a front panel made from thick, heavy duty non-magnetic aluminum to prevent interference. Thick, nickel-plated copper, independent input connectors for CD and Phono plus, Marantz original high-quality / high-purity copper-plated speaker connectors ensure the best possible signal.

More than 60 years of audiophile experience

Founded in 1953, Marantz has a long and rich history of designing audio components that have been loved by music lovers and critical listeners around the world. Because music is important, the PM-12SE continues our long tradition of providing the best quality music and movie listening options in its class.
