The Technics SP-10R is a high-end direct drive turntable from the Reference Class series. Designed for exceptional rotational stability and minimal noise, this model is perfect for reproducing high-quality analog sound.

Coreless direct drive motor

The direct drive turntable motor is a coreless direct motor that was developed in 2016 for the SL-1200G. The motor was later improved. For this purpose, the newly developed coreless direct motor with a double coil and double rotor had coils on both sides for 12 poles and 18 coil drive, which provided a sufficiently high torque for the heavy record disc (7.9 kg). By shifting the coils on both sides by 60 degrees, the rigidity of the base was increased, which improved vibration damping and reduced self-induction. These improvements made it possible to ensure stable rotation with a frequency change of 0.015% or less, which is considered the measurement limit. In addition, the support bearings that support the heavy disc are made using special plastic to ensure both high rigidity and reliability.

Damping unwanted engine vibrations

The motor developed for the SL-1200G served as a platform for the direct drive motor. The dual spool, reinforced support bearings and rigid block ensure a more stable motor with a low center of gravity. Two strong, high-density stainless steel weights are placed at the bottom of the block to maintain rigidity and a low center of gravity. These measures, designed to suppress unwanted vibrations, help ensure exceptional rotational accuracy and improve the signal-to-noise ratio.

Fine adjustment and rotation indication

This turntable supports not only LP (33 1/3 rpm) and EP (45 rpm) analog records, but also SP (78 rpm). The rotation (rpm) can be adjusted to two decimal places (maximum ±16%) on the control unit. The rotation can be displayed accurately to two decimal places on the OLED display, so the user can both hear and see the extremely precise rotation.

SP-10MK2 and SP-10MK3 compatibility

To allow users to continue to use the turntable base and cartridge of other systems, including the SP-10MK2 and SP-10MK3, the shape and screw positions of the SP-10R base plate are designed to allow for mounting and adjustment on the SP-10MK2 and SP-10MK3. The shape and size of the control unit matches the shape and size of the SP-10MK2 power supply unit for hassle-free replacement.
