TECHNICAL DATA
Plays WAV, FLAC, AAC, AIF, AIFC, AIFF, APE, M4A, M4A (Apple Lossless) ALAC, OGG, WMA files up to 24-bit 192kHz and DSF and DFF files up to DSD64 over a computer network from computers, servers and via front USB (type A) socket from USB media.
By connecting a computer to the USB (type B) socket on the back of the Sonica DAC, it is possible to listen to music files up to DSD512 (22.5792 MHz native) and 768kHz/32-bit PCM
Like other Oppo products, the player has a solid construction, which is adorned with a brushed aluminum front panel with an OLED display. Sonica DAC can be used both as a media player for audio files and as an external DAC.
From PC/DLNA NAS/USB-A, in addition to traditional max 24-bit 192 kHz FLAC, WAV and Apple Lossless, the media part will be able to play High Resolution PCM and DSD files: max DSD64 files - from DLNA server and USB-A devices, and max PCM 32-bit 768 kHz and DSD512 - from a computer connected to the asynchronous USB-B input. An asynchronous USB-B input is installed for PC connection, conventional optical and coaxial inputs for other digital sources, as well as one analog stereo RCA line input. Other connection methods - via integrated AirPlay, Bluetooth, W-Fi, Ethernet.
For convenient control of Sonica DAC from smart devices, there is a free app that allows you to control the content of a DLNA server, a connected USB-A device and Tidal - Spotify. In the player, the volume control on the front panel can be used to change the sound level on the stereo RCA and balanced XLR outputs. It will be possible to directly connect a power amplifier or active speakers to these connectors. These outputs will always be active and both will always be active.
Tidal is expected to be the main integrated music service, but it is possible that there will be more in future software updates, including Spotify.
Through the home network, the Sonica DAC will be easily connected to the Sonica Multi-Room Wi-Fi Speaker - the Sonica Wi-Fi Speaker, and the Sonica Grand is scheduled to be released soon.
Technically, from the output of the DAC chip to the analog output, the entire circuit is fully balanced. Even the unbalanced RCA output signal is converted from balanced XLR. Such a solution significantly reduces noises, better separation of channels is obtained, and higher sound quality is ensured. The internal circuitry of the Sonica DAC is powered by a powerful toroidal transformer.
